you can use it as is but wont be able to take advantage of its most prominent features. a mic is one of those things.

A call from Skype to Skype users is free. How ever if you want to call oher numbers it costs money. Skype calls it "skype Credit". You have to buy this through skype. Nothing else is required.
Reply:You can also get a skype phone from computer shops and use at home with a wifi connection. Free calls to online contacts on skype. Credit has to be bought to call outside numbers. i.e: mobile or home numbers

You can call other skype users for free but you can also credit your skype account and call mobiles and landlines at a very low cost (a one hour call to an Australian landline costs me around 拢1 ($2) ).


Also you can send SMS messages to mobiles for a very low cost.
