About the chat bar on facebook?

You know on Facebook they have that bar where it tells you what friends are online it lets you talk to them. I have two computures ate home and even if im on the same login it wont work on my laptop but it will on my other. do i have to install something on my laptop? if so what is it and can someone tell me how to find it?
