How can I get internet in another room?

Hey guys, i need some help. i have internet in my room, it's dsl at%26amp;t internet and i my brother wanted to get internet for his room too...so how can we do that? does he just get a a wireless router? or do we call the at%26amp;t company? and if we get a router, what kind are we suppose to get?

You can either buy a wireless or a wired router. A wireless will be much less work but you need wi-fi cards installed into both of your computers unless they already have them. If you were to buy a wired router you need really long cables or you drill a whole if he is next to you. For a wired you will need 3 ethernet cables, one from your router to your modem, and 2 for the routers to your computers.

you just need a wireless router but you have to make sure the pc recieving the signals has a wireless card to be able to pick up the signals, most modern lapops have this already built in, if not you need a network adapter

Reply:There are a few ways depending on how much you want to spend and how your house is configured.


First way is: If you have a router which has more than one port than just plug in a ethernet cable into one of the free ports and connect it to your bro's computer. You will probably need a fairly long cable and you will obviously get cable clutter.


Second way: if you do not have a router with more than one port you can buy another router with several ports and to the same cable thingy.


Third option: buy a wireless router. You will need a wireless card however. With most wireless routers you can connect at least one computer via a cable so you can connect your computer to the wireless router and your brother can connect wireless provided he has a wireless card in his computer.





I am not sure about calling AT%26amp;T. In my country you buy the router with the package. You often get a discount that way and once you have the router you can not upgrade to a wireless one and receive a discount on it. You might as well buy yourself a wireless router via eBay. There you can find new ones and also second hand ones and wireless cards should you need one.





I can recommend Linksys routers as they are very reliable, not too dear and look ok too. They are also easy to configure should you ever need to.





One thing to consider is using laptops. If you or your brother thinks you might get a laptop one day (if you do not already have one) then definitely go wireless. That way you can move around the house with your laptop and stay online.
